Carcinosarcoma of the breast—a rare entity with a fatal prognosis. Case report

چکیده
Background: Metaplastic breast carcinomas are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms that exhibit a poor prognosis compared with invasive ductal carcinoma. They correspond to <1% of all malignant neoplasms of the mammary gland. They usually present as highgrade tumors with a lower rate of lymph node metastases and decreased expression of estrogen, progesterone and Her2 receptors and increased expression of Her1 and Ki-67. Clinical case: We report the case of a 52-year-old woman who presented with a breast carcinosarcoma with a fungated, ulcerated, polypoid left breast tumor that was 18 cm in diameter with lymph node metastases at diagnosis. She received multimodal management with neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by mastectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy. She presented with disease progression with lung metastases and local massive recurrence and eventually died from complications associated with the disease. Conclusions: Metaplastic carcinomas of the breast are extremely rare entities. Due the nature of disease and presentation, the prognosis is poor in these patients. There are several histological subtypes based on studies using hematoxylin and eosin and immunohistochemical stains. This entity requires multimodal therapy (surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy) for best results.

متن کاملCarcinosarcoma of the Maxillary Sinus: A Case Report
Carcinosarcoma is a highly malignant tumour exhibiting histological components of both carcinomatous and sarcomatoid elements. Carcinosarcoma is extremely rare in the sinonasal cavity. Due to the rarity and clinical diversity, these neoplasms are often misdiagnosed and pose a challenge in their management. Here we report a 44-year-old man with epistaxis and progressive symptoms of nasal obstru...
متن کاملPrimary Stromal Sarcoma of Breast: A Rare Entity
Primary soft tissue sarcomas of the breast constitute less than 5% of all soft tissue sarcomas and less than 1% of malignant breast cancers. The rarity of this tumor limits most studies to small retrospective case reviews and case reports. Primary breast sarcomas are locally aggressive tumors as evidenced by the high rate of local recurrence when excisional surgery is performed. A contemporary ...
متن کامل18FDG PET/CT in pulmonary carcinosarcoma and brain metastasis
Carcinosarcoma is a rare type of cancer that is composed of a mixture of sarcomatous and carcinomatous elements. Pulmonary carcinosarcoma has a 25% five-year survival rate with a prognosis poorer than other non-small cell lung carcinomas. Herein, we report a case of pulmonary carcinosarcoma and its 18F-FDG PET/CT findings. A 61-year-old male patient presented with brain symptoms, including hea...
